Nigeria 2-0 Iceland: Buhari’s Fatherly Role Has Revived Super Eagles World Cup Campaign – Pinnick


Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick says Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland’s down to President Muhammadu Buhari’s fatherly role on the team after the team’s 2-0 lose to Croatia.

The team revived their World Cup campaign with a brilliant win over Iceland in their second Group D encounter on Friday, thanks to Ahmed Musa’s sublime brace in the second half, to earn the team an all important three points.

Pinnick stated that Buhari established a more conducive atmosphere for the team during their preparation for the World Cup.

Besides, he appealed to Nigerians to support the team as they are poise to make Nigeria proud in Russia.

“The NFF dedicates this win to President Muhammadu Buhari for his massive support and fatherly role to the NFF and the National Teams. Our President has created a much –conducive environment for football to thrive.

“I also want to specially appreciate the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki and Members of the Presidential delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung and including the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Olusade Adesola and our IOC Member, Engineer Habu Gumel.”

“I have always believed this would be a great World Cup campaign for Nigeria. We have the team that can do it and this was proved again on Friday.

“It is important that every Nigerian continues to support the team with prayers. This squad is capable of going far in the tournament to make Nigeria and Africa proud.”
