*Says December Deadline May Not Be Possible
Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the quick release of capital for the completion of the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Rail project.
Ashafa, who also deputize as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport stated this on Thursday during the Joint Senate and House of Representatives inspection of work done on the project.
Besides, he also applauded the Federal Ministry of Transport, Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, and construction firm handling the project for their commitment in ensuring that the Lagos-Ibadan Rail project is completed at due time.
“I must commend them for their commitment towards the revitalization of Nigeria railway.
“Let me commend the Ministry of Transport, the NRC and CCECC for the commitment they have displayed towards the actualization of the rail revitalization agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I would also like to commend the Federal Government for its effort in ensuring that capital releases are being made towards ensuring the timely completion of the project.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos East senator noted that though his committee was satisfied with the level of work on the project, he doubted if it could be delivered on schedule.
“While we would hasten to urge the contractor to adhere to the deadline, we would want to say that they should let the Nigerian government know on time if they would need more time to deliver on this project.”
