Iceland proved they won’t be pushover at the World Cup after holding ‘almighty’ Argentina 1-1 in Group D opening fixture on Saturday, to send a statement of intent to Nigeria and Croatia.
Sergio Aguero opened scoring for Argentina with a fine finish and it was thought that would be the turning point of Iceland thrashing.
But they weather the storm after Augsburg’s Alfred Finnbogadottir levelled scores for Iceland to earn them a vital one point.
Iceland who will face Nigeria in the second Group B match on Friday, now share one point with Argentina.
