Rachakonda police have nabbed over eight Nigerians for cyber crimes in the past five months while they arrested 13 Nigerians last year. According to police, most of them were involved in job and matrimonial fraud cases.
Last year, with 336 cases Rachakonda recorded the most cyber crime cases among all three commissionerates.
“Nigerians who come on visit visa or student visa are committing such crimes. All offenders are residing in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
They cheat on the pretext of offering jobs or selling products,” said S Harinath, assistant commissioner (cyber crime), Rachakonda.
According to police, the offenders promise jobs in MNCs and collect a big sum of money.
In cyber crime the stolen amount is in the form of electronic currency which is often transferred abroad and is hard to recover.
“These offenders cheat for a high amount starting from 2 lakh till 12 lakh. While only 10% of the amount can be recovered, as they either transfer the amount or buy products,” added.
